Now showing: Beginnings and Endings
Michael Goodin and Nika Belianina
OPENING: Saturday, Aug 12, 3-5 pm
The Beginnings and Endings photography exhibition represents an attempt to connect with oneself by going on a personal journey inward and outward.
Technology and a fast pace of living sometimes exhaust Nika Belianina, so she seeks out the places where life has its own slower pace and a deep connection to the land. Such places rejuvenate her and remind of the simple joys of life. This time she went to the small villages of the SaPa region of Vietnam in search of calmness.
In these charming Vietnamese villages the time stands still, households have tremendous character, and people have the most sincere smiles she has seen in a while. This new series captures the feelings of joy and nostalgia for a simple way of life.
Michael Goodin's series “Sudden Rebirth” took him across the USA following his divorce. As he contemplated what had happened, he created a series of self portraits conveying this new stage and life transition through the use of an alter ego.
These images are an expression of his confusion, sadness, anger, and grief yet also a weird and wonderful juxtaposition of the positives and excitement that comes from sudden and unexpected loss in a place of rebirth.
The end is the new beginning.
We are hosting an ever-changing display of talent, with rotating showcases that highlight each photographer’s vision. And, if you’re interested in showing your work at our Toronto gallery, get in touch.
